What Kind of Poker Player Are You?

The quiz has 9 questions about how you play. Your answers place you in one of 5 player types, and each type comes with the skill that helps it most.

How the quiz scores you

Two things sort most poker players: how many hands they play (tight or loose) and what they do with them (passive or aggressive). The player types guide covers how to play against each combination. The quiz asks three questions on each, plus three about what happens after a bad beat, and goes with your majority answer on each.

Tight and aggressive is a TAG, loose and aggressive a LAG, tight and passive a rock, and loose and passive a calling station. If all three of your bad-beat answers lean toward tilt, you're a steamer whatever your style, because tilt changes how every other answer plays out.

The player types

Tight-aggressive · The TAG

You play few hands and bet the ones you play. It's the style most poker teaching aims for, and the next edge is adjusting to the players at your table.

Loose-aggressive · The LAG

You play a lot of hands and you play them hard. The pressure wins pots, and the leak is the bluff that was never going to work.

Tight-passive · The Rock

You wait for good hands, then play them quietly. The discipline is real, and the chips you leave behind are in the bets you don't make.

Loose-passive · The Calling Station

You see a lot of flops and you'd rather call than raise or fold. The fix is knowing when the price of a call is right.

Tilt-prone · The Steamer

You play your game until a bad beat, then you play a different one. In poker slang that's steaming: playing on tilt.
